1,1, 1,3, 3, [3-HEXAFLUORO-2- (4-METHYLPHENYL) PROPAN-2-OL] (Lancaster, 25 g, 96.8 [MMOL)] was suspended [IN CC4 (125] mL). To the suspension was added NBS (17.2 g, 96. 7 mmol) and AIBN (20 mg, 0. [12MOL).] The reaction was heated at reflux for 2 h and cooled to ambient temperature over 48 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through Celite and [CONCENTRATED IN VACUO.] The solid was dissolved in Et20 and filtered. Concentration of the mother liquor afforded the title bromide as a yellow oil (30.0 g, 92%). MS (ES+) [M/Z] 338 [(MH+).
