Steps:



A mixture of 7-fluoro-4-hydroxyquinoline-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (2.45 g,10.0 mmol; see step (b) above) and POCl3 (3 mL) was stirred at 100 0C for 20 min, cooled and concentrated. The residue was washed with heptane (3x30 mL) and dried. Yield 2.26 g (89 %) as an off-white solid.1H-NMR (CDCl35 400 MHz) δ 9.52 (IH5 s), 8.73 (IH5 dd), 8.32 (IH5 dd), 7.82 (IH, ddd), 4.57 (2H5 q), 1.51 (3H5 1).
