General procedure: The compounds 4a, 4b and 4c were prepared following the procedure reported by Mistry et al. [25] starting from N,N-dimethylethanolamine 12 and XCH2I in THF (with X = H, Cl or I), using a 1.5:1 molar ratio of XCH2I to ethanolamine. The reaction mixture was stirred in the dark for 24 h at room temperature. The gummy crude product was washed with dry THF, and the resulting salts were filtered off to obtain the products as white solids.
