7.1 Step 1
To a stirred solution of 3-chloro-l,2-diaminobenzene (1.60 g, 11.2 mmol) in CH2CI2 (40 mL) was added carbonyl diimidazole (2.80 g, 17.0 mmol) in portions. The mixture was stirred at rt overnight and concentrated. The residue was suspended in EtOAc (80 mL) and 5% aq HC1 (30 mL). The mixture was filtered and the solid collected was dried in vacuo to give 13 (1.70 g, 90% yield). LC-MS tR 3.11 min, m/z 210 (M+MeCN+H+).
