3-(2-Diethylamino-ethoxy)-phenylamine can be prepared by the following procedure. To a solution of diethyl-[2-(3-nitro-phenoxy)-ethyl]-amine (2.72 mmol) (from Example Ig) in EtOH (20 mL) is added SnCl2-2H2O (10.9 mmol). The suspension is refluxed for 2 h. After this time the solvent is removed under reduced pressure. The residue is dissolved in 5% NaOH (50 mL) and extracted withEtOAc (3 x 50 mL). The organic layer is washed once with 5% NaOH (20 mL), brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to afford the aniline as a brown oil (80%). MS (m/z) (M+l)+ 209.1.
