Yield:19737-63-4 100%

Reaction Conditions:

with hydrogenchloride;platinum(IV) oxide;hydrogen in ethanol;water; under 7500.75 Torr; for 120 h;Autoclave;Inert atmosphere;

Steps:

ii Step (ii)

Platinum (IV) oxide (0.20 g, 0.89 mmol) was added to a degassed solution of 3- (2-methoxyphenyl)pyridine (1.65 g, 8.91 mmol) in EtOH (70 mL) and hydrogen chloride (2.85 mL) under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was evacuated and the autoclave filled with hydrogen at 10 bar pressure for 120 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through a bed of Celite and concentrated in vacuo. Water (50 mL) was added and the solution was adjusted to pH 8 with 1M NaOH solution. This was then taken up in EtOH, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. This yielded 3-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperidine (quantitative yield) as a solid, which was used without further purification. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ ppm 1.42 - 1.78 (m, 5 H) 2.33 - 2.54 (m, 2 H) 2.89 - 3.03 (m, 2 H) 3.78 (s, 3 H) 6.87 - 6.96 (m, 2 H) 7.13 - 7.24 (m, 2H) 8.54 (s, 1H) MS ES+: 192
