3 Example 3. Preparation of ethyl 3-(3-methoxyphenyl)propionate 4

To 50 mL of a solution of 4.40 g (0.22 mol) of Compound 3 in ethanol was added 0.500 g (10%) of Pd/C.The mixture was exchanged with hydrogen by N2 and vacuum exchange.It was then pressurized to 405 KPa.Stir at room temperature for 12 h.Filter through celite and concentrate in vacuo.Yielding 4.50 g of product 4 as a colorless oil.The yield was 99%.
