The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 18 h. The reaction mixture was quenched by addition of 2 N HC1 (48 mL). After being stirred for 1 h, the THF was evaporated. The resulting aqueous solution was was adjusted to pH 8 by the addition of IN NaOH. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc three times. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over Na₂S0₄, filtered and evaporated to dryness to yield Intermediate 9A (2.89 g, 14.1 mmol, 103 % yield) as a colorless oil.
