Step B: For 3-(4-Nitro-phenyl)-[l,2,4]oxadiazole . A mixture of N-Hydroxy-4-nitro- benzamidine (5.2 g, 30 mmol) in Orthoformic acid triethyl ester (50 ml) was refluxed overnight. The resulting mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was washed with Et20 to give the 3-(4-Nitro-phenyl)-[l,2,4]oxadiazole which was pure enough to be used directly (4.6 g, 92% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 8.87 (s, 1H), 8.39-8.32 (m, 4H).
