34A 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-3-carboxylic acid

A solution of methyl 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-3-carboxylate (CAS No.39891-56-0) (67 mg, 0.376 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (1.5 mL) and methanol (1.5 mL) was treated with 1 M aqueous NaOH (1 mL, 1.000 mmol), stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes, and partitioned between methyl tert-butyl ether (50 mL) and aqueous 1 M HCl (10 mL).
The methyl tert-butyl ether layer was washed with brine, dried (MgSO₄), filtered, and concentrated to provide the title compound. ¹H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl₃) δ ppm 7.41 (d, J=7.5 Hz, 1H), 7.23-7.18 (m, 1H), 6.91 (t, J=7.5 Hz, 1H), 6.84 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 1H), 4.92 (dd, J=9.3, 6.4 Hz, 1H), 4.67 (t, J=9.5 Hz, 1H), 4.37 (dd, J=9.6, 6.4 Hz, 1H).
