To a solution of Scheme 46 compound 4 (1.4 g, 7.48 mmol) in water (14 mL) was added KOH (838 mg, 14.97 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred at 110 °C for 3 h. After TLC showed the starting material was completely consumed, the reaction mixture was washed with CH2C12 (20 mL) to remove impurities, neutralized with 2N HC1 (down to pH 2) and extracted with EtOAc (2 x 50 mL). The organic phase was dried over Na2S04 and concentrated to give Scheme 46 compound 5 (760 mg, 50%>) as an off-white solid. MS [ESI, (M-H)"] = 205.7.
