(1) 2-Diphenylmethyleneamino-γ-butyrolactone A solution of 2-amino-γ-butyrolactone hydrobromide (5.0 g) and benzophenoneimine (4.6 ml) in methylene chloride was stirred at room temperature overnight. Ammonium bromide was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated. The residue obtained was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent; ethyl acetate:n-hexane=1:3) to give the subject compound (6.98 g) as white crystals, melting at 98-101° C. Rf value: 0.59 (ethyl acetate:n-hexane=1:1) 1 H-NMR(CDCl3) δ: 2.40 (1H, m), 2.61 (1H, m), 4.22 (1H, m), 4.30 (1H, t, J=8.3 Hz), 4.56 (1H, dt, J=8.8, 3.4 Hz), 7.32-7.65 (10H, m) IR(cm-1): 1775, 1627, 1450 MS(EI): 265(M+) Elemental analysis Calculated C; 76.96, H; 5.70, N; 5.28 Found C; 77.32, H; 5.85, N; 5.22
