(3-Iodophenoxy)acetic acid synthesis

Steps:

To a stirred solution of (3-iodo-phenoxy)-acetic acid ethyl ester (2.00 g, 6.5 mmol) in THF:MeOH:H20 (2:1:1, 100 ml) was added LiOH·H20 (0.54 g, 12.8 mmol). The resulting reaction mixture was stirred for10 h at room temperature. The reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum, diluted with water (50ml), acidified with 2N HCI and the crude product was extracted with ethyl acetate (2 x 100 ml). The organic layer was washed with brine (50 ml), dried over anhydrous Na2S04. filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford (3-lodo-phenoxy)-acetic acid (1.50 g, 83 %) as an off-white solid.
