Steps:

General procedure for coupling reaction

General procedure: To a 25 mL round-bottom flask equipped with a magnetic bar, phenylacetylene (4.5 mmol), aryl halide (3.0 mmol), Pd(PPh3)2Cl2 ( 2.0 mol%) and ChOH (4.0 mL) were added. Then, the mixture was stirred at 40°C. After being stirred, the reaction mixture was filtered. Then, the filtrate was acidified with 3M HCl aqueous solution, and the aqueous layer was extracted with diethyl ether (3 X 10 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried with anhydrous Na2SO4, and evaporated under reduced pressure. The crude mixture was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (hexanes/ ethyl acetate).
