Example 2; Solid 10% Pd/C (0.1 g) was added rapidly to a solution of the nitropyridine (1 g, 5.1 mmol) in MeOH (50 mL) which had been thoroughly sparged with nitrogen. The mixture was placed under vacuum for 5 min, after which, it was fitted with a H2 balloon and maintained at rt for 2 h. The Pd catalyst was filtered, the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by chromatography to afford 0.8 g (97%) of the desired product.
