4-Oxo-myrtenyl pivalate (Ig, 4mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (15ml). NaBH₄ (0.2g, 5.3mmol) was added slowly and the resulting suspension was stirred at room temperature for 15 min. The ethanol was evaporated, then ether and water were added. The organic layer was separated, dried and evaporated to give a colorless oil (0.92g, 91%).
