26 2-(4-(2-Methylpyridin-4-yl)phenyl)acetic acid (55)
To a solution of 54 (500 mg, 1.96 mmol) in CH3OH (6 mL) and H2O (2 mL) was added NaOH (157 mg, 3.92 mmol), and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h.
After the solvent was removed by vacuum, the pH was adjusted to 6 with 1 N HCl.
The resulting precipitate was filtered and washed with H2O (10 mL) to give the desired product (356 mg, 80%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.48 (d, J = 4.8 Hz, 1H), 7.73 (d, J = 8.0 Hz, 2H), 7.58 (s, 1H), 7.49 (d, J = 5.2 Hz, 1H), 7.39 (d, J = 8.0 Hz, 2H), 3.64 (s, 2H), 2.52 (s, 3H).
