Step 2. 4-(4-Bromophenyl)-1H-pyrazol-5-amine A solution of 2-(4-bromophenyl)-3-(dimethylamino)acrylonitrile (5.4 g, 18.07 mmol, 1.00 equiv, 84%) and NH2NH2HBr (12.2 g, 107.96 mmol, 5.97 equiv) in ethanol (60 mL) and H2O (6 mL) was stirred for 3 hr at 80° C., and then concentrated in vacuo. Dichloromethane was added and the solid was filtered out and washed with dichloromethane. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The resulting solid was collected by filtration and washed with EtOAc/hexane (1/10) to afford 1.32 g (25%) of 4-(4-bromophenyl)-1H-pyrazol-5-amine as a yellow solid. LC-MS: (ES, m/z): [M+H]+ 238
