Steps:

General procedure for the preparation of 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazoles

General procedure: A mixture of aldehydes (1 mmol), thiosemicarbazide (1 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP, 70% aqueous solution) (1 mmol) was stirred at room temperature for 4h. The progress of the reaction was monitored by TLC using hexane/ EtOAc as the mobile phase. After the completion of the reaction, ethanol was evaporated under vacuum to obtain a solid residue. To this solid residue, ethyl acetate (10 ml) and water (10 ml) were added followed by saturated sodium bicarbonate solution (10 mL). Separated organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated under vacuum to obtain the product, which was further purified using silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate).
