Steps:
4,6-dimethyl-1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine
General procedure: Equimolar amounts of appropriate phenyl/benzothiazolylhydrazine (14/7) (0.001 mol), αcyanoacetophenone 8 (0.001 mol), and PTSA (0.0005) were mixed thoroughly in pestle mortar with grinding followed by the addition of equimolar amount of appropriate β-diketone 10 (0.001 mol) and their subsequent grinding. The solid obtained by addition of aq. ethanol was filtered, dried and recrystallized from ethanol-chloroform mixture to give pure pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine derivative (5a-g, 6a-d and 11a-d).
