4.2. Synthesis of substituted Quinolin-2-ol (2)

General procedure: In a 25 ml round bottom flask, substituted acetoacetanilide (1 g) wasadded to 8 ml polyphosphoric acid and stirred for 6 h at 120-140 C. Thereaction was monitored by TLC. After completion of the reaction, thereaction mixture was allowed to stand at room temperature. Furthercold water or ice was added to the reaction mixture which yieldedprecipitate, signaling the formation of the solid product. The productwas obtained by vacuum filtration. The obtained solid was then driedand further recrystallized using rectified spirit.
