A suspension of 4-acetyl-2-fluorobenzonitrile (2.42 g, 14.8 mmol) in aqueous hydrochloric acid (20%, 100 mL) was refluxed (oil bath temperature: 110 ⁰C) overnight. After cooling, the crystals formed were collected by filtration and dried to give the desired product (2.16 g). The mother liquor was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was washed with water and filtered to give 300 mg of the desired product. (2.46 g, 91%) LCMS (M+H)=l 82.9.
