Step 3. Synthesis of 4-(4-bromophenylsulfonyl)aniline (VII) A suspension of Tin(II) chloride dihydrate in concentrated acetic acid (66.1 g in 180 ml) was treated with a 3 M solution of chloridric acid in MeOH for 30 minutes. The resulting suspension was added portionwise during 40 minutes to a suspension of the 1-bromo-4-(4-nitrophenylsulfonyl)benzene (IV) compound (28.6 g) [or a correspondent 1-substituted-4-(4-nitrophenylsulfonyl)benzene] dissolved in acetic acid and was stirred at 80° C. for 2 h. 2 litres of water were added and a precipitate formed overnight, which was filtered and washed with 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide and water. The product was crystallized from hot-cold EtOH (yield: 69%).
