To a solution of 2-aminobiphenyl (10 g, 59.1 mmol) in DMF (30 mL) was added NBS (10.4 g, 59 mmol,) at 0 °C, and stirred for 2 hours. After the reaction was complete, the reaction mixture was added to water, and filtered to give 186-2 (13 g, about 90% yield) as a solid. MS Calcd.: 247.7; MSFound: 248.7[M + H]⁺.
