Reaction Conditions:

with triethylamine in dichloromethane at 0; for 1 h;

Steps:

1 Preparation 1; Preparation of 4-acetoxyethyl-1-bromobenzene

2.0 ml (28.1 MMOL) of acetyl chloride are added to an ice-cooled solution of 3.76 g (18.7 MMOL) of 4-bromophenethyl alcohol and 5.2 ml (37.3 MMOL) of triethylamine in DICHLOROMETHANE. The reaction mixture is stirred for 1 hour and then diluted in diethyl ether. The organic phase is washed with 1N HCI (twice), with saturated aqueous NAHCO3 solution and then with saturated aqueous salt solution, after which it is dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concen- trated under reduced pressure. The crude product obtained (4.56 g, 100%) is pure and requires no further purification.
