62 Intermediate 62 4-CHLORO-2-(CHLOROMETHYL)-1-IODOBENZENE

(5-Chloro-2-iodophenyl) methanol (2.9g) was taken up in dry DCM (30ml) and thionyl chloride (3ml). Pyridine (1 drop) was added and the mixture was heated to reflux overnight. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was cautiously quenched with water, then partitioned between water (40ml) and DCM (30ml). The organic portion was separated and solvent removed under reduced pressure. Purification via BIOTAGET" CHROMATOGRAPHY (CYCLOHEXANE : DCM 100: 0 to 90: 10) gave the title compound. 'H NMR (CDCI3) 8 4.62 (s, 2H), 7.02 (dd, 1H), 7.49 (d, 1H), 7.78 (d, 1H)
