4-Chloro-2-(methoxymethyl)-6-methylpyrimidine
A mixture of 2-(methoxymethyl)-6-methylpyrimidin-4(3H)-one (2.80 g, 18.1 mmol) in phosphoryl trichloride (25 mL) was stirred for 1 h at 80° C.
The reaction mixture was evaporated in vacuo then quenched with cold aqueous ammonia.
The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate.
The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo to yield 1.9 g (crude) of the title compound as a red oil which was carried forward without purification. LCMS (ESI): [M+H]⁺=173.
