2. General procedure for the reaction

General procedure: 1 (0.2 mmol, 1.0 equiv.), 2 (0.24mmol, 1.2 equiv.), K2CO3 (0.4 mmol, 2.0 equiv.), and toluene/H2O (V/V = 95:5, 2.0 mL) were added to a test tube at 120 °C in an oil bath under air overnight. After the disappearance of the substrate as indicated by TLC, the mixture was extracted by DCM (3 × 5 mL). The organic layers were combined and dried by Na2SO4. The solvent was removed under vacuum and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography, using a mixture of petroleum ether/ethyl acetate to give the desired product 3.
