with acetyl chloride in methanol at 0 - 20;

Steps:

Amine Hydrochlorides 1a-d, 2a-d, 8b, 11b, 18b, 19b, and 23; GeneralProcedure

General procedure: AcCl (7.7 g, 0.10 mol) was added dropwise to a stirred and cooled (0°C) solution of the appropriate N-Boc derivative 6b, 7a,b, 9b, 10a,b, 14b, 15b, 16a,b, 17a,b, or 22 (0.06 mol) in anhyd MeOH (250 mL). When the addition was complete, the mixture was warmed to r.t. and left overnight. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo, and the residue was triturated with hexane (100 mL), filtered, and recrystallized from a suitable solvent to give a white crystalline solid.
