Steps:

4.1.1. 4-(Ethylthio)benzaldehyde

4-(Ethylthio)benzaldehyde was prepared from ethanthiol(10 mmol) and 4-flourobenzaldehyde (15 mmol) in the presence ofpotassium carbonate (5 mmol) in DMF (10 mL). The reactionmixture was heated to 200 °C and stirred for 16 h. The compoundwas purified by column chromatography over silica gel (eluent:hexane: ethyl acetate, 6:1) to afford the product as brown oil in 96%yield. Purity (HPLC): 99%. IR νmax: 1672.0 (CO), 3426.0 (OH) cm1.1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ ppm 1.36 (t, J 7.32 Hz, 2 H), 3.01 (q,J 7.32 Hz, 3 H), 7.32 (m, J 8.54 Hz, 2 H), 7.71e7.76 (m, 2 H), 9.89(s, 1 H); 13C NMR (100 MHz, CDCl3): δ 14.12, 25.22, 130.35, 131.84,161.44, 190.79. HRMS: calculated for C9H10OS [M++H] 166.0452;found 166.0432.
