5 Preparation of 4-methoxy-5-nitrobenzenesulphonamide
Preparation of 4-methoxy-5-nitrobenzenesulphonamide 0.4 mol (63 g) of 4-methoxy-5-nitrobenzenesulphonyl chloride is dissolved in 250 ml of chloroform; the solution is cooled to about -5° C and then a stream of ammonia is allowed to bubble in for 15 minutes. The sulphonamide obtained is precipitated; the ammonium chloride formed is separated by washing with ice water. The sulphonamide is crystallized in an alcohol/ether mixture. Yield = 81% th. M.P. = 135° C.
