To a solution of tert-butyl 4-methylenepiperidine-1-carboxylate (5 g, 25.35 mmol) in dichloromethane (50 mL) was added trifluoroacetic acid (15.40 g, 135.0 mmol, 10 mL). The mixture was stirred at 25 °C for 12 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered and concentrated to afford 4-methylenepiperidine trifluoracetic acid salt (5.35 g, 100%) as a colorless oil.
