Steps:

4-Methylpiperidin-4-ol hydrochloride:
To solution of tert-butyl 4-hydroxy-4-methylpiperidine- 1 -carboxylate (5 g, 23.2 mmol) inMeOH (5 mL) was added 4.0 M HC1 in 1,4-Dioxane (17 mL) at 0 °C. The reaction mixturewas stirred at room temperature for 4 h. After completion, the volatiles were concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 3 g of 4-methylpiperidin-4-ol hydrochloride (Quantitative).
