Description 7 [2-(2-methyl-4-pyridinyl)ethyl]amine (D7) To a solution of 2-[2-(2-methyl-4-pyridinyl)ethyl]-1 H-isoindole-1 ,3(2H)-dione (D6) (0.5 g) in ethanol (30 ml) was added hydrazine hydrate 55% in water (5 ml). The mixture was then refluxed for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was then evaporated and the residue taken in ethyl acetate (50 ml) and washed with 1 M hydrochloric acid solution (3 x 25 ml). The acid layer was re-extracted with ethyl acetate (50 ml). The acid layer was then basified using solid sodium hydrogen carbonate. The mixture was evaporated and the solid obtained was stirred in methanol (2 x 50 ml), the solid was filtered off and the methanol was evaporated to give the required product [2-(2-methyl-4- pyridinyl)ethyl]amine (0.287 g) NMR (MeOD-d6) δ 2.50-2.55 (>3H, m), 2.74 - 2.80 (>2H, m), 2.89 - 2.91 (1 H, m), 7.10 - 7.13 (1 H, m), 7.18 - 7.20 (1 H, m), 8.25 - 8.29 (1 H, m). Showed some minor impurities but was consistent with proposed structure. LC/MS t = 0.32min, [MH+] 138 consistent with the molecular formula C8H12N2
