10 tert-Butyl 4,4-dimethyl- 1,2,3 -oxathiazolidine-3 -carboxylate 2,2-dioxide
Sodium periodate (11.25 g, 52.59 mmol) and ruthenium (II) chloride hydrate (0.044 g,0.21 mmol) were added to a cooled solution of tert-butyl 4,4-dimethyl-1,2,3-oxathiazolidine-3-carboxylate 2-oxide (9.9 g, 42.07 mmol) in acetonitrile (105 mL) / water(105 mL). The reaction was stirred vigourously for 30 mm, then allowed to warm to roomtemperature for a further 30 mm. Diethyl ether (100 mL) was added and the layersseparated. The organic was extracted with diethyl ether (100 mL), then the combinedorganics were washed with water, brine, then dried (Mg504), filtered and concentrated to give tert-butyl 4,4-dimethyl-1,2,3-oxathiazolidine-3-carboxylate 2,2-dioxide (9.55 g, 90 %) as a cream coloured solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDC13, 27 °C) 1.56 (9H, s), 1.59 (6H, s), 4.23 (2H, s).
