Method B; 1-Ethyl-5-nitro-1,3-dihydro-indol-2-one (11) (5.30 g, 25.70 mmol) was dissolved in THF (100 ml) and placed in Parr shaker with Raney Nickel at 50 psi with a supply of H₂ for 16 h. The resulting solution was filtered and concentrated to afford the desired product as a solid (5.78, 32.8 mmol, quant.). ¹H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl₃): δ1.24 (t, 3H), 3.44 (q, 2H), 3.72 (s, 2H), 6.58-6.60 (m, 2H), 6.67-6.69 (m, 1H). MS-APCI (m/z⁺): 177 (M+1).
