To 5-chloronicotinate(10. 5 g) was added 1NNaOH (84.9 mL) at ambient temperature. The mixture was heated at60° C for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was adjusted to pH 4-5 withHCI. The precipitate was filtered to give 5-chloronicotinic acid (6.9 g) a colorless solid. H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6)δ 8.30(1H, dd, J = 3 Hz), 8.88(1H, d, J = 3 Hz), 9.01 (1H, d, J = 3 Hz), 13.8(1H, br s). 5-chloronicotinic acid 'H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.30 (1H, dd, J = 3,3 Hz), 8.88 (1H, d, J = 3 Hz), 9.01 (1H, d, J = 3 Hz), 13.8 (1H, br s).
