Production of 5-chloro-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-1-ium chloride Example 132 6.5 g (40 mmol) iron(III) chloride is added to a solution of 77 g (0.8 mol) 4(3H)-pyrimidinone in 770 ml glacial acetic acid and 113.6 g (1.6 mol) chlorine is introduced within 2 hours at 40-45° C. The reaction mixture is cooled to 15° C., the resulting solid product is suctioned off and washed using ether. 112.5 g (84% of theoretical yield) 5-chloro-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-1-ium chloride is obtained.
