[0037] 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzaldehyde (1 meq) is dissolved in 20 mL of absolute EtOH, to this mixture 5 mL of 37%acetaldehyde and the catalyst Pd/C 10% are added and the reaction is carried out under a H2 atmosphere leaving toreact at room temperature for 24 h. It is filtered on Celite, the solvent is concentrated to obtain a yellow solid. Yield 80%.ESI-/MS m/z: 164 [M-H]-, ESI-/MS/MS m/z: 149 (20),121 (5).
