Steps:

3. Synthesis of 2-substituted benzoxazoles.

General procedure: A mixture of aminophenol 1 (0.5 mmol), N-phenylthiobenzamide 2 (1.0 mmol), and Ph3BiCl2(6a: 1.0 mmol) were well stirred at 60 °C in 1,2-DCE (3.0 mL) for 18 h. After completion ofthe reaction, the reaction mixture was diluted with H2O (20 mL) and CH2Cl2 (20 mL), and theaqueous phase was extracted with CH2Cl2 (3 × 30 mL). The combined organic phase waswashed with brine (20 mL) and dried over MgSO4. Evaporation of the solvent furnished thecrude product. The crude product was then purified by column chromatography on silica gel.
