Synthesis of 7-Formyl-8-quinolinol
The aldehydic quinoline compound7-Formyl-8-quinolinol was synthesized from8-hydroxyquinoline following reported method8-9.A mixture of 1.45 g (100 mmol) of 8-Quinolinol,90 mL of 15% NaOH solution and 8.5 mL of CHCl3solvent was heated using water bath and refluxedfor a period of four hours. After cooling, the pH of thereaction mixture was set at 5.5-5.8 using a solution ofhydrochloric acid with molarity of 0.1M. The separatedproduct obtained was light brown in color productthat was collected by filtration and then purified byrecrystallization from 80% ethanol to get pale brownsolid. The yield (87%) obtained was in good quantity.The melting point measured was 210°C.
