Steps:
[6-(Aminomethyl)-2-pyridyl]methanol (16b)
General procedure: To a solution of 1.75 g (6.5 mmol) of compound 15b in 100 mL of ethanol was added 0.325 g (6.5 mmol) of hydrazine hydrate. The mixture was boiled for 4 h and then cooled to room temperature. The precipitate was filtered off, the filtrate was evaporated to dryness to yield 0.9 g (100%) of compound 16b, which was used in the next step without further purification. Mass spectrum, m/z (Irel, %): 139.1 (100) [M + H]+.
