7 6-aminothiochroman-4-one

The solution of 6-nitrothiochroman-4-one (3 g) in a 3:1 mixture of ethanol and water (60 mL) was heated at 80°C and then supplemented with ammonium chloride (1.5 g) and iron (6 g). After 15 min, the hot reaction mixture was filtered and the insoluble material was washed with hot ethanol (50 mL). The filtrate was treated with charcoal, filtered and then concentrated to dryness. The residue was suspended in water, collected by filtration, washed with water and dried (yield: 86%); melting point: 119-121°C.
