EXAMPLE 1 To a suspension of 1.6 g of 4-phenyl-6-chloro-2(1H)-quinazolinethione in 50 ml of methanol was added 2.0 g of hydrazine hydrate, and the mixture was heated under reflux for 16 hours. The solvent was then removed under reduced pressure and water was added to the residue. The resulting crystals were collected by filtration, washed with water and dried to obtain 1.6 g of yellow product, which was then recrystallized from ethanol to give 2-hydrazino-4-phenyl-6-chloroquinazoline as yellow needles, m.p. 172° - 173° C.
