Steps:

a) 6-Fluoro-4H-1, 3-benzodioxine-8-carbaldehyde Anhydrous sodium carbonate (400 mg) was added to 8- (CHLOROMETHYL)-6-FLUORO-4H-1, 3- benzodioxine (260 mg) in dimethylsulphoxide (2 mL). The mixture was heated to 130°C for 24 h after which it was cooled and added to water (10 mL). The mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (3 x 5 mL), the combined organic layers dried (magnesium sulphate) and evaporated in vacuo to yield the title compound as a colourless oil (203 mg). H NMR (300 MHz, D6-DMSO) 8 10.2 (1H, d), 7.35-7. 41 (2H, m), 5.41 (2H, s), 4.96 (2H, S).
