Steps:

3.3 General synthesis of 4-oxo-4H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid analogues

General procedure: A solution of sodium chlorite (47.87 mmol) in water (8 mL) was stirred at 0 °C for 10 min. To this solution, 4-oxo-4H-chromene-3-carbaldehyde 2 (13.67 mmol) and sulfamic acid (54.69 mmol) were added, followed by gradual addition of DCM (15 mL). The resulting mixture was stirred for 3 h at room temperature and then quenched with water (25 mL), and extracted with DCM (3 x 25 mL). The combined organic phases were dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. The solid obtained was recrystallized from 80:20 methanol-water to give 4-oxo-4H-chromene-3-carboxylic acids 3a-f.
