Standard Reaction Conditions

General procedure: A) To an oven-dried 1.5 dram vial was added FeCl3 (25 mol%). Any solid reactants were also added at this stage. Amagnetic stir bar was added and the vial was transferred to a glovebox. Anhydrous acetonitrile (1 mL, 0.3 M) wasthen added, followed by the C-H substrate (5 equiv.) and the electron-deficient alkene (1 equiv.). The vial was sealedand then placed on a stir plate 2-3 inches away from a 390 nm Kessil lamp. Ambient temperature was maintained withthe use of a fan above the set-up. After 36 hours, the reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo and purified usingsilica gel flash column chromatography, using ethyl acetate/hexanes as the eluent.
