Step 1:
Synthesis of N'-(3,5-dimethoxybenzylidene)-4-methylbenzenesulfonylhydrazide
100 ml of an ethanol solution containing 10.0 g of 3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde and 11.2 g of 4-methylbenzenesulfonylhydrazide was stirred at room temperature for 5 hours.
After the solvent of the resulting reaction mixture was distilled off under reduced pressure, the title compound was obtained as 20.0 g of a yellow solid.
¹H-NMR (CDCl₃) 8: 8.13 (1H, s), 7.87 (2H, d, J=7.8 Hz), 7.68 (1H, s), 7.30 (2H, d, J =7.8 Hz), 6.72 (2H, d, J=2.4 Hz), 6.46 (1H, t, J=2.4 Hz), 3.79 (6H, s), 2.40 (3H, s).
