A suspension of commercially available 4-bromoplienyl boronic acid (18, 253.0 g, 1.24 mol) in acetonitrile (1000 ml) was stirred at room temperature. Pinacol (150.9g, 1.27 mol) was added and stirring was continued 1.5 h until a clear solution was obtained. The solvent was removed at 30°-35°C under vacuum to give crude 4- bromo-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-l,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)benzene (20, 349.9g, 99.7% yield) as light yellow solid. (¹H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl₃) δ 7.66 (d, J= 8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.50 (d, J= 8.4 Hz, 2Hz), 1.34 (s, 12H) ppm).
