2. 7-Bromo-2-methyl-1-indanone (2) Using a method similar to Example 1, 57.2 g of (2) were obtained as solid from 78.2 g (0.37 mol) of 2-bromopropiophenone (S. Wang et al., J. Org. Chem., 1989, 54, 5364). M.p.: 55-61° C.; 1H-NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): 7.50 (1H), 7.37 (2H), 3.34 (m, 1H), 2.9-2.6 (m, 2H), 1.3 (d, 3H).
